Hear what Susan’s students have to say…

Susan Hart will always be one of my favorite teachers of all time! She is so very passionate and supportive, and her joyous spirit is so contagious. I’ve been through many acting programs including The Juilliard School. A teacher like Susan Hart is rare and my time with her is invaluable. So grateful to have learned from her.

Susan is an incredible teacher! I used to be so intimidated by Shakespeare, but she knows exactly how to help make the language feel accessible and like your own. Susan obviously has an extensive knowledge of the folio, but more impressive than that is her instinct and empathy as an actress herself. And it is the combination of those two things that will enable you to do some of your best work. She coached me on all of my monologues for grad school, and to this day, I still believe that it is some of the most confident, grounded, and powerful work I've done as an actor.

I've always loved Shakespeare, but it used to make me feel insecure and unsure of myself. After studying with Susan, though, I now walk into every Shakespeare audition feeling confident and ready to put my best foot forward. She strikes the perfect balance of warmth and rigor in her classes, creating an atmosphere of fun and accountability with the most amazing results. I am so grateful for the work that she does and the positive effect it has had on my career!

Any and everything I book I owe in part to this woman.

Susan Hart single-handedly blew my mind and heart open with this work. Her dedication and passion for each and every one of her students is unprecedented. The skills she has taught me have launched an incredibly fortunate and consistent career on language based theater that has lasted over a decade. Any and everything I book I owe in part to this woman.

Laura Rook, actor and Assistant Director of American Player’s Theatre’s 2022 production of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labor’s Lost, talks to APT’s Artistic Director Barbara DeVita, about her experience in Susan’s classes and how they attributed to the deep appreciation for Shakespeare’s language that helped her get where she is today (TIMESTAMP: 04:17).

The community she builds for Shakespeare lovers is unlike any I’ve been a part of before and I am so grateful for it.

Susan provides the perfect energetic balance of safety and challenge in her classroom, giving her students an expansive space to learn and experiment. She waters us with her extensive knowledge and Shakespearean know-how. She has made Shakespeare’s text so much easier to access and understand for me through her expertise and deeply apparent love for the craft. The community she builds for Shakespeare lovers is unlike any I’ve been a part of before and I am so grateful for it.

As a theatre educator of students with learning differences and disabilities, Susan’s classes have been incredibly valuable resource to me, and ultimately, my own students. Because of Susan, I am now able to use my understanding of the patterns and the humanity in Shakespeare’s text to empower my students to take ownership of the language themselves. I cannot recommend her courses enough to both theatre and English educators who want to do more for their own students by seeking a deeper understanding of Shakespeare through the actor’s lens.
